Jakarta to Build Polor Reservoir on Angke River

Jakarta is ramping up its flood defenses with a new reservoir slated for the Bendung Polor area in West Jakarta. The project aims to mitigate the effects of extreme weather and protect the city from rising water levels.

To fast-track the development of the Polor Reservoir along the Angke River

Governor Pramono Anung confirmed the initiative after wrapping up a high-level meeting at City Hall on Thursday

"Our next move, as decided in the meeting, is to fast-track the development of the Polor Reservoir along the Angke River,” he noted, Friday (1/30).

Ciliwung River Normalization Continues with a More Human-Centered Approach

By catching runoff during extreme weather, the new facility is intended to keep flooding at bay.

“This project is designed to break the surge of rainfall in the Angke River. By trapping the water in this basin, we prevent the system from being overwhelmed by a sudden rush of water into the Cengkareng Drain,” Pramono added.

Jakarta is doubling down on its flood mitigation efforts by accelerating work on the Cakung Lama and Ciliwung rivers alongside the new reservoir project.

"As it turns out, the Krukut River was out of harm’s way during the recent storms. This allows us to zero in on getting the Cakung Lama and Ciliwung projects off the ground," he stated.
